The Bible teaches that salvation comes through faith in Christ, not baptism. But God has commanded us to be baptized as a sign of our faith. Baptism is kind of like a marriage ceremony. It's like being done with dating God and making a life-long commitment to God in front of witnesses. It's about going public with your faith and saying good-bye to your old life. Because baptism is such a huge decision about one's future, we don't perform infant baptisms. In fact, a child should not get baptized until he or she reaches an age where such a decision can be made honestly.
